CutOff!CutOff! oscillates with his music between experimentation and functionality. Both in his productions and his hardware live sets he demonstrates a distinct awareness of the relationship between music and the surrounding world. Having lived in London, New York and South Australia, the Berlin based artist’s approach to playing live is characterized by improvisation with nothing prepared beforehand, while always staying focused on the feedback from the dancefloor. Similarly, for his productions he draws inspiration from all aspects of reality – be it the conversion of mathematical concepts into rhythmic sequences or the translation of abstract expressionists' technique of painting veils of layers into an aural experience by means of granular synthesis.
In fact, one might assume that he honed his ability to recognize and connect seemingly unrelated patterns during his academic endeavors when he pursued a Ph.D. in the area of human rights and international relations. While his musical ventures nearly came to a halt during this period, in the long run he gained insights applicable to the creative process that have helped him spur his passion for electronic music and enter into his yet most productive period.
Having said all that, CutOff!CutOff!'s music works without any background knowledge regarding the concepts employed in the process of making it because the end result conveys its meaning to the listener in the form of banging Techno music.
Groove Magazine, BBC Radio 1 and Rinse FM are amongst those that already took notice and featured his latest EP "Shifted".
